Postdoctoral Research Associate, Nutrition Research Institute
Location: Kannapolis, NC
One postdoctoral position is available immediately to study molecular mechanisms of atherosclerosis and metabolic disorders at the UNC Chapel Hill Nutrition Research Institute (NRI) in Kannapolis. Small laboratory animal models, molecular biology and biochemistry techniques are the main research approaches for these studies. Qualified applicants must have a PhD or MD in molecular biology, biochemistry or related field, excellent analytical skills, strong written and verbal communication skills and good interpersonal skills. Relevant experience in animal models, molecular and cell biology, data analyses, and presenting experimental results is desirable. Ability to work both independently and cooperatively within a team is essential. Experience with laboratory rodent or molecular biology is preferred. Salary commensurate with experience.
The NRI is located on the 350-acre North Carolina Research Campus in Kannapolis, North Carolina, 14 miles from Charlotte NC (2 hours from Chapel Hill). The 125,000-square-foot building houses a broad variety of laboratory and research spaces, clinical facilities, offices, and meeting areas. Research at the NRI focuses on the underlying mechanisms for individual differences in metabolism and nutrient requirements. Current NRI faculty members study the role of epigenetics in progenitor cell proliferation, effects of diet on DNA and histone methylation, SNPs resulting in metabolic inefficiencies, energy metabolism, 1-carbon metabolism, brain development, fetal alcohol syndrome, obesity and carcinogenesis. NRI research is complemented by research programs from several other universities on the North Carolina Research Campus and by the state of the art vivarium and stellar genomics and microscopy instrumentation in the David Murdock core laboratory building.
