Community
NCRC is located in the city of Kannapolis, about 30 minutes north of Charlotte. Kannapolis is a community transforming from a 20th century textile town, as the international headquarters of Cannon Mills, to a 21st century center for life science research linking nutrition, agriculture, and human health.
The NCRC is located in downtown Kannapolis, a village-like area with restaurants, a coffee shop, and movie theater. Downtown is a community gathering place with many festivals throughout the year and an annual farmer's market. Village Park, which is also downtown, is home to free summer movies and concerts as well as a splash pad, train, greenway, playground, and plenty of space for picnics and family fun. Village Park is one of six parks operated by the city of Kannapolis. Families can also enjoy the Cannon Memorial YMCA, athletic leagues, the Kannapolis branch of the Cabarrus County Library, the Kannapolis History Associates' GI House, and the NC Music Hall of Fame.
Kannapolis offers numerous neighborhoods with a variety of housings styles and price points. One of those neighborhoods, Irish Creek, sports a view of Kannapolis Lake and proximity to Irish Creek Country Club's 18-hole, Davis Love III signature golf course.
Another benefit for families is Kannapolis City Schools. KCS is recognized as a top performing school system for overall excellence and for their emphasis on science, technology, engineering, and math education, which includes the opening of a new Biotechnology Academy at AL Brown High School.
Within the Charlotte region, the choice of cultural, historical, sports, and outdoor activities are never-ending. The beach and mountains are just a short drive away. With Charlotte-Douglas International Airport and Concord Regional Airport, the rest of the world isn't far away either.
