The NC Research is a research community of 300 scientists and support staff focused on treating and preventing the most prevalent diseases of our times including cancer, diabetes, obesity and Alzheimer’s disease. The people of the NCRC are from diverse backgrounds and possess experience and expertise that spans numerous scientific areas. On campus, they enjoy Magnolia’s Café that offers lunch buffets and other selections for breakfast and lunch. Researchers find connections and support by participating in associations like Catalyst, Faculty Staff, the Administrative Forum and the Cabarrus Chinese American Association. Monthly the David H. Murdock Research Institute (DHMRI) hosts the Collaborators Seminar Series where campus researchers share their ongoing research.
Beyond the lab, those on the NCRC enjoy the lifestyle and activities available in the city of Kannapolis. Kannapolis is a historic city that was once a world leader in manufacturing home textiles. Downtown Kannapolis, which is adjacent to the campus, offers Restaurant 46 for casual dining, shops, the GEM Theater and other restaurants from Asian to burgers. The area’s only indoor, year-round Farmers Market is downtown offering fresh fruits, vegetables, herbs, meats, honey, nuts, baked goods and the work of local artists.. Kannapolis sports a variety of neighborhoods, good schools and many family, cultural and outdoor activities. As part of the Charlotte region, professional sports, theater, dining and even more outdoor activities are short drive away. From Charlotte, the mountains and beaches of North Carolina are less than a day’s drive.
