Rowan-Cabarrus Community College

Rowan-Cabarrus Community College provides education and workforce development to the piedmont region through a North Campus in Salisbury, a South Campus in Kannapolis, and three additional locations in Concord and Kannapolis including the North Carolina Research Campus. Located on the NCRC is Rowan-Cabarrus Community College's Biotechnology Training Center, a three-floor, 62,000 square-foot facility that is a "hands-on realistic training environment." The training center hosts ten classrooms, ten laboratories, faculty and staff offices, a community event room, library, multiple conference rooms, distance-education and video conferencing capabilities, and a student center.

Already 300 students and instructors are at the Rowan-Cabarrus facility over 14 hours a day. Students take classes to achieve an associate degree in biotechnology that prepares them for jobs as lab technicians, research assistants, or quality control associates. The associate degree in industrial engineering technology with a biotechnology option prepares graduates to perform as technical leaders in manufacturing and service organizations. The curriculum incorporates the study and application of methods and techniques for developing, implementing, and improving integrated systems involving people, material, equipment, and information.

Future associate degree programs will include agricultural biotechnology and health information technology plus shorter-term certificate programs in biotechnology and science. The Rowan-Cabarrus Training Center houses Marcy Corjay, the dean of math, science and biotechnology, and Rowan-Cabarrus' President Carol Spalding, Ed.D, who works from the NCRC part-time. Also in the training center is the Small Business Center, providing support to entrepreneurs and growing businesses, and the Office of Corporate and Professional Development, the college's provider of on-site quality and process improvement training for companies.
