Kannapolis Scholars Program
While most students are planning their summer vacations, Kannapolis Scholars are returning to the NCRC for a 10-week rotation in the labs of the eight partner universities.
Kannapolis Scholars is a transdisciplinary training program that harnesses the assets of the NCRC by bringing postgraduate students from the universities on campus to study food science, nutrition and human health in partnership with some of the leading scientists in those fields.
The program is led by NC State University through a $1 million grant from the US Department of Agriculture. The funds will allow at least 20 students over the next four years to participate in the program. Students receive approximately $38,000 over the 15-month program for tuition, housing and other expenses.
The original class of seven scholars chosen in 2010 is returning this summer joined by seven new students just beginning the program this summer.
Scholars are chosen by a committee of faculty from each participating university based on their grade point average, test scores, letters of recommendation and proposal for a transdisciplinary project in the areas of food science, nutrition and human health.
